And think about your skills and using them along with items you have to make that cash. From there, you can decide which ways to make money quickly are right for you.
1. Use Your Car to Make Money
If you have a car there are a few ways you can use it to make money. Try these ideas on for size.
Rent Your Car Out
Turo is a car sharing marketplace that will pay you for letting others use your car.
Here’s how it works:
- You list your car on Turo’s marketplace
- Set your price and choose your ground rules
- When a renter signs up, check your guest in and hand them the keys
- Earn cash after the rental period is finished
Turo has a variety of protection plans to choose from to insure and keep your car safe. The amount of commission you earn depends on the price you set and the level of protection you choose.
The Turo website says the average Turo user earned $706 per month when they rented for 12 days or more per month.
Drive for Lyft
Another way you can use your car is to drive for a rideshare service like Lyft. You probably know how Lyft works. You get approved to be a Lyft driver.
After you install the Lyft app, Lyft will show you when there are people in your area that need a ride. When you accept the ride and deliver the client to their destination, you get paid.
Lyft pays you a predetermined dollar amount based on your time and mileage. In addition, you might even earn tips on top of that. Lyft pays bonuses for frequent drivers too.
2. Care for Animals
If you like caring for animals, you might want to sign up with Rover. Rover is a site that connects pet caregivers with pet owners.

Airbnb rentals often get $70 per night or more, which means you could earn well over $1,000 per month renting a room out.
Another option is to rent out your entire finished basement as an apartment. Or, rent out storage space in your basement, garage, or yard so people can store their stuff.
Sites like Neighbor let you advertise available storage space in your home. You may as well utilize space you’re not using and make some money with it.
6. Sell Your Unwanted Stuff
If you’re like most people, you’ve got piles of unwanted stuff lying around your house and/or garage. One of the ways people make money fast is by selling that unwanted stuff.
You can unload CDs, DVDs, video games and other items quickly with Decluttr. Just enter the barcode numbers for each item and Decluttr will give you an immediate quote.
They’ll send you a free shipping label and pay you as soon as they get your stuff and check it out for condition.

There are several sites that will pay you for sharing your opinion. Sites like Swagbucks will pay you money for completing quick surveys.
The cool thing about making money with surveys is that you can do so in your spare time. In other words, you don’t have to set aside hours to do so.
Survey Junkie is another site that will pay you for sharing your opinion. Surveys vary in time length and payout amount. You choose the surveys you want to take and skip the ones you don’t.
Depending on the company, you can get your payout via cash, Direct Deposit or check. Some other survey sites to check out include:
You’re not going to get rich completing surveys. However, you could earn $50 or more a month just in your spare time.
8. Work as a Tutor From Home
There are several tutoring companies that will let you work right from home teaching others. Tutoring online often pays as much as $15 per hour. Here are some of our favorite online tutoring companies.
VIPKid tutors teach the English Language to Chinese students. They give you the lesson plan and coordinate half-hour video lessons with kids.
You set your own schedule, although most available hours are different from a typical U.S. working day.
There’s no degree required to work at this company, although they do want you to have some teaching experience. And you don’t need to know Chinese to teach with VIPKid.
ITutor hires tutors to teach students in subjects such as math, English, and science. You can tutor in test prep as well. Note that you have to have a Bachelor’s degree to work with this company.
With Course Hero you can teach on a wide variety of subjects. They hire tutors to teach everything from math to accounting.
You don’t need to have a teaching degree to teach here, but you will need demonstrative knowledge of the subjects you wish to teach.
The site says that top tutors earn hundreds of dollars each week. You can set your own schedule and earn what you’d like.
9. Take Advantage of Cash Back Sites
There are several cash back sites that will pay you cash when you do your normal, everyday shopping. Some sites work for online shopping only, while others work for both online and in person shopping.
Here are some of our favorites:
Ibotta is a super easy cash back app that’s paid out nearly $800 million dollars to users. It’s really easy to use too. After you download the Ibotta app, you check deals based on the store you’re going to shop at.
Ibotta will show you all of the deals they have for each store. You click on the deals you want to take advantage of.
For instance, Ibotta might offer you cash back on a specific item, like Kraft Singles. Or they might offer you cash back on a specific item regardless of brand, such as eggs or milk.
If you’re shopping online Ibotta will just add the cash back credit to your account after purchase. If you’re shopping in person, you just scan your receipt and Ibotta will “catch” the offer items you bought and credit you the cash.
Once you’ve reached the $20 minimum earnings threshold, you can cash out by sending your money to your bank account, to PayPal, or you can get gift cards to popular retailers from Ibotta.
Rakuten (formerly Ebates) will give you up to 40% cash back on purchases when you shop online through the Rakuten shopping portal.
It’s easy to earn: just sign up for your free Rakuten account. Then go through your Rakuten account to access retailers you want to shop at.
When you access the retailer and complete a purchase through Rakuten, Rakuten will give you the specified cash back amount on your purchase. Oh, and you can earn money for referring others to the site as well.
Earned cash is paid out quarterly via PayPal or mailed check.
Mr. Rebates works a lot like Rakuten. Just sign up for a free Mr. Rebates account. When you shop online and complete your purchase through the Mr. Rebates portal, Mr. Rebates will credit you for the specified cash back amount.
10. Cut Your Expenses
One hidden way a lot of people make money fast is simply by cutting expenses.
You could use a service like Trim that helps you find hidden charges and then cancels hidden services on your behalf with your permission. (They’ll help you find lower rates on things like car insurance too).
Or you could go on a spending fast. Choose not to spend any money you don’t absolutely have to spend during a specified time period.
Cancel your gym membership. Stop going out to eat. Skip the salon and cut down on alcohol purchases. You’ll be surprised at how fast cutting your expenses will result in an extra $1,000 in the bank.
11. Get a Part-Time Job
If you don’t want the hassle of owning your own business but still want some extra money, why not get a part-time job?
Here are some ideas:
- Restaurant server or host person
- Retail worker
- Brand ambassador
- Data entry worker
- Customer service rep (from home or at a call center)
Visit local businesses or check job websites to find out which companies are hiring. Choose based on the hours you have available and which jobs mesh most with your skills.
If you can make $12 per hour and work 25 hours per week, you can make $1,000 per month after taxes.
12. Deliver Food
Looking for more ways to make $1,000 quickly? Try delivering food. There are companies hire people to deliver groceries from grocery stores.
You’d pick up the order at a nearby restaurant and bring it to clients. The companies pay you a set amount depending on the logistics of the order, and clients often tip as well.
This is a great money making opportunity, especially if you live in a highly populated area. You can use your car, scooter or bike to deliver the orders.
13. Create a Course
Do you have something you can teach people? If so, you can use a site like Teachable to create an online course. Then market and sell the course.
Use what you know to teach others how to do the same thing, and make money doing it. For instance, maybe you are great at web design. Or if you know physical fitness you could create a workout course.
Are you great at organization? Teach others how to be organized. Or, are you gifted at marketing? Teach others how to market their business.
You’ve got skills, use them to make cash.
14. Make YouTube Videos
Another way to use your skills is to make YouTube videos. You could make videos on how to repair home items or cars. Or on how to declutter or redecorate your home.
Now, the key to success making YouTube videos is to build your audience, and fast. Get on social media and follow people who follow others who make YouTube videos with similar subjects to yours.
Then ask them to follow you back. The more time you spend gaining followers, the more people that will see your videos, which translates into higher YouTube income for you.
15. Care for People
If you like watching kids, you could sign up on Care.com as a babysitter. The site even offers positions for elder care. You can create your profile and choose what people group you’d like to care for.
Then, apply for the jobs that fit your skills, interests and schedule. Or wait for potential clients to approach you. With sites like Care.com you can set your price as well.
Hint: Include a photo with your profile. People feel more comfortable hiring and interviewing candidates who have a photo on their profile.
16. Try Retail Arbitrage
Retail Arbitrage is the practice of buying stuff at a low price and selling it at a higher price. You can find items at garage sales or on sites like Craigslist.
Look for items that are underpriced, then turn around and resell them. Hint: Check the “free” listings on sites like Craigslist and look for curbside finds in your neighborhood.
Doing so can be a great way to increase your profits even further.
Making Money With Your Own Business
There’s something you need to know if you make money by freelancing your skills or some other “on your own” avenue–even if it’s with a business like TaskRabbit or Lyft.
It’s important to set aside some of your income to pay taxes with. Because you’re running your own business and collecting payment straight from a client or company, no taxes will be taken out.
You don’t want to be hit with a big tax bill in the spring and have no money to pay it. For that reason, set aside 30 percent or so of your earnings. That way you’ll have money if you end up with a tax bill.
There are lots of ways to make $1,000 quickly. Get creative and be willing to put in some serious effort. You might even find yourself a growing business as you search!
